How Much Will It Cost?

Apple's Snow Leopard

I upgraded my Intel Macs to Snow Leopard last Friday. I'm not sure why, but I decided to take a shot and become an early adopter on this particular upgrade. I liked what I was hearing about Apple having taken great pains to optimize the code, reduce the disk space required for the OS, and that one result of all this would be apps that open/close/react faster. Not wanting to upgrade my main iMac just quite yet, more space and greater speed would be welcome.

To date, my overall impressions with Snow LeopardĀ  have been positive. I welcomed the newly available free gigs on my hard drive and enjoy the speed increases that, for the most part, I've noticed in most of my apps. There are, however, a few small issues that I hope Apple gets around to taking care of in future updates. For instance, my Dock tends to become nonresponsive. When that happens, I can't get to it since I keep it hidden. Also, whenever this happens to the Dock, Spaces tends to become likewise unresponsive. That means that I can't get to any app windows that happen to be sitting in alternate viewports. I've found that a quick and dirty way to get things moving again without having to reboot is to launch Activity Viewer and Force Quit the Dock. That seems to shake things up, the Dock automatically reloads, and Spaces activates once more.

Other than that one thing, along with the few apps that exhibit some compatibility issues, I'm happy that I performed the upgrade.
